The reality of A different way of thinking

thinking machineOn a long journey recently my satnav seemed to become annoyed with me. There were road closures and it was desperately trying to send us back the way we had come, to the closed roads. The instructions it then gave us amounted almost to  “sort yourselves out then”. When we stopped it flew out of the car door, almost suicidally.

This led to the discussion about whether complex machines had some sort of consciousness.

A few days later I happened to watch a film about Alan Turing and his work on the enigma machine. When asked if he thought if machines could think he said, “Just because machines cannot think as people do, does not mean that they cannot think”. Also,” Just because something is thinking differently from you does not mean it is not thinking”.

This made me think anyway. Not only to be nice to your mechanical objects, they may be more conscious than you think, but also this may apply to any aliens in our world. Could we actually understand each other if our thinking patterns were so different.

Aspect of reality

Just because something is thinking differently from you does not mean it is not thinking. Are we really the only intelligent or conscious beings in our reality?

Creating our own reality- the last word?

  • It is often asked if  human consciousness can change physical reality. I believe so  and use the science of quantum mechanics  to illustrate my point.
The wise  David Russell said ”  Human consciousness not only affects reality but it also creates it. What is reality? Is it what we can see, hear, touch? Is it what we believe? Is it our morality or ethics? Is it what we do or what feel? Or is it all of these things as we are, each of us, all of them ourselves?”
I replied”  Our reality is what we perceive, I believe. I also believe that it is more individual than we realize. It is like an interactive video game. Every player believes they are playing the same game with the same rules, but we are creating our own game as we play.”
I also added “We may be changing physical reality as we go to do that.”
We cannot know what we are supposing is true. Evidence is creeping in that consciousness does have a role in creation. I have done lots of blog posts about that very topic. Track back if you are interested. All I know is that science is beginning to look at this properly ( via Quantum mechanics and studies about the nature of consciousness) at last .
I do know what I, and many others, believe. Hopefully the time will come when it is all a lot clearer and and these views, especially in answer to the age old questions of who we actually are and what we are doing here, will begin to make more sense to the general population.
Until then, keep thinking and creating.

Collective Consciousness

red-question-markLast week, in what was to be my final final post about human consciousness, I explained about the Global Brain Project. This involves all individual consciousness, that we as humans have, linking together at certain time every week, in a meditative state, to positively alter things on a global scale.

Some people believe that another of looking at this is that we are feeding into, and upgrading, the human collective consciousness. (more…)

Another slant on consciousness

red-question-mark

Having thought that I had finished with my consciousness theme, yet  another interesting slant on the whole thing came to my attention.  Consciousness is a vital clue in our search for the truth about reality. It may be as mistake, though, just to  think of it just as something that happens in our physical brains. There are many who believe it  concerns  not only who we are as individuals on this Earth but who we are at deeper levels and who we are  as cosmic beings. (more…)

Consciousness as a key to understanding who we actually are.

purple-question-markThe reality we exist in seems many layered and complex. As limited human beings we struggle to make sense of the true big picture. Who made us? What are we actually doing here? Could we really be only random accidents of evolutionary forces? The consensus seems to be that an understanding of the nature of human consciousness seems to be an important key to understanding this conundrum. Science, philosophy, and religion all have their views on what consciousness is. Where it comes from is a different and more interesting matter. (more…)

Consciousness and time

I had intended to finish my “Time” series last week, but one of my readers made a point which I thought was well worth clarifying. This concerned the role of consciousness in our understanding of time. I had  already mentioned the fact that the true understanding of the concept of time, and how it operates in our universe, can only really be achieved if we properly understand who and what WE really are. How can we begin to answer this? The fact is who we are as human beings actually boils down to the nature of our consciousness. It is with this human consciousness, or awareness, that we observe and interact with the world and perceive time.

Whether or not time is actually linear or simultaneous (happening all at once) was the initial question that sparked all this debate. As before mentioned, some physicists believe the separation between past, present, and future is only an illusion, although a convincing one. This does not matter on a day to day basis as it is our consciousness which perceives it to be linear. We could simply not live our lives if it was any other way. I am told that there are other worlds where this is not so, but for us that is the case.

The age old unanswerable question is, of course, where does this consciousness come from? To answer that we have to consider whether it could be just a side effect of human evolution, part of our animal brain? Or is it gifted by a creator being? Are we here randomly, or are we here for a purpose? Why human life? What is the real nature of this consciousness? Until we can answer those questions, we cannot really make sense of the conundrum of time, and why it needs to be as it is.

Aspects of Reality

1-The separation between past present and future may be an illusion.

2- Our perception of time is a function of our consciousness.
